Hi and welcome to this weeks article "portrait tattoos"
I am sure we have all seen the cringe worthy efforts of artist not knowing how to do portrait tattoos and yet still trying to ?
Portraits tattoos are unlike most any other in so much as they do not have a styalised appearance they cannot be improved upon and they have no outline to work to
A portarit tatoo to be a good tattoo first and foremost must match the picture it comes from verbatim (so remember we can not be resposible for how it looks thats down to how the subject looks) I mean u cant make Dawn French Look Angelina Jolie to make a point
The artist needs to be someone who draws the way portraits are someone who understands portraits perios never mind portrait tattoos
your part in this jigsaw is the original picture if your stuck with the pic you have cos its of someone no longer with us then get it blown up to the size you want your portrait tattoo by a professinal photo finishers
If your lucky enough to be able to take pics of the subject the I cannot reccomend highly enough visiting a pro photographer and having a portarit done for the purpose explain to him what your using the picture for and the effect you want IE heavy shaddows or soft highlights etc
Dont skimp you will have this portrait tattoo forever make it the best it can be
Then find a good artist here at London Tattoo we are lucky to have Andy Baxter master of the black and grey on paper or indeed the skin
I myself have 2 portrait tattoos done by Andy and they are amazing
Andy work can be seen on our website www.london-tattoo.com
Andy is Londons very best portrait tattoo artist
